Coast-R Network

The Coast-R Network+ brings together academics, UK marine, coastal and government agencies, industry partners, local authorities, the voluntary sector and communities most affected by coastal change.

The Coast-R Network is a UK-wide initiative that brings together researchers, policymakers, industry partners and coastal communities to improve resilience across the UK’s coastlines. It focuses on advancing understanding of coastal change, including the impacts of climate change, flooding and coastal erosion, while supporting more effective and inclusive approaches to managing these risks.

Through collaboration, research, and knowledge exchange, Coast-R supports the development of practical, place-based solutions that respond to local needs. The network also provides funding opportunities, resources and training to help build capacity and enable organisations and communities to take informed action towards a more resilient coastal future.

Our vision

  • To build a new transdisciplinary, cross-sector and inclusive community of practice.
  • Enhancing capacity and capability to deliver a step change in research, innovation and practice on place-based and whole-systems approaches.
  • Delivering better understanding about coastal change and enhancing the resilient management of UK coastal seas and communities and the natural capital that sustains them.

Our work

Our work on the Coast-R Network is organised into 6 work packages (WPs). Activities across several of our WPs are supported by our Flexible Fund

Activities here include our annual forums, our launch and end-of-project events, and our Digital Engagement Platform.

Work Package 3: Training & Secondments

Our programme includes support for specialist training workshops, a Training & Skills Fund (under development), and funds to support attendance at Coast-R Network events.

Work Package 4: Research & Policy Interventions
