Background
This conference hosted by Westminster Forum Projects will explore recent developments, challenges and priorities in implementing climate adaptation and resilience measures across the UK, with a particular focus on infrastructure planning, investment and delivery.
Bringing together policymakers, practitioners and sector stakeholders, the event will consider how national and local government strategies, regulators and infrastructure operators are responding to climate risks, including flooding, heatwaves and compound extreme events.
Key themes
Key themes will include:
- Policy and delivery priorities — practical steps to advance adaptation planning, coordination and accountability across sectors.
- Funding, milestones and governance — how objectives can be embedded into national, regional and local plans with measurable outcomes and clear lines of responsibility.
- Investment, monitoring and innovation — approaches to incentivising public and private investment, strengthening monitoring and reporting of climate risk, and the role of emerging technologies and data solutions.
- Built environment and critical infrastructure resilience — addressing risks to housing, transport, energy, water and digital systems, including challenges around standards, retrofit, and cross-sector coordination.
The agenda also includes sessions on innovation and emerging research priorities, and delegates can contribute to outputs shared with government, regulators and other stakeholders.
Speakers
Confirmed speakers include senior figures from government departments, regulators and industry, such as the Chair of the Climate Change Committee’s Adaptation Committee, leaders from the Environment Agency, and representatives from infrastructure and finance sectors.
The keynote speaker is Baroness Brown, Chair of the Adaptation Committee, Climate Change Committee.
MACC Hub colleague Jonny Casey, Head of Programmes and Partnerships at Verture, will also be speaking at the event.
