Overview
Preparing for climate futures: for people who take catastrophic climate risk seriously
The Cadence Roundtable is a confidential, supportive space for people working in government, the voluntary sector, or the private sector who recognise the need to prepare society for environmental breakdown. Participants from anywhere in the world are welcome to join the forthcoming online events.
Dates and format
Cadence Conversations 2026 will take place on Monday evenings via Zoom on:
16 February, 16 March, 20 April, and continuing through 2026.
About the series
This new series reflects a community-driven approach to Cadence’s work. Formerly focused on live webinars, the 2026 programme centres on regular reading, listening and watch-party sessions. These sessions engage with leading material from academia, government and expert journalism, and explore how this learning can be translated into real-world change.
The series begins with watch parties focused on the National Emergency Briefing, delivered by leading speakers at the end of 2025.
Purpose
The aim of the Cadence Roundtable is to support individuals, organisations and professions to strengthen societal resilience — locally and nationally — in the context of today’s polycrisis and cascading climate challenges.
While a growing body of research and innovation addresses preparation for climate breakdown, much of this work has yet to meaningfully influence policy, planning and professional practice, particularly in vulnerable communities. Cadence seeks to address this gap by providing space for reflection, dialogue and peer support.
Session structure
7.30pm — Optional early arrival to read, listen to, or watch the session material together
8.00pm — Welcome, orientation and facilitated conversations in small groups and plenary, exploring:
- How participants were challenged by the material and the support they need to respond
- What should be included in local and national adaptation planning
- How insights can be brought to the attention of local resilience partnerships, agencies and professions
- How to build a movement of people willing to take responsibility amid climate breakdown and accelerating destabilisation
9.00pm — Close
Who the session is for
The Cadence Roundtable offers a forum for peer support in the face of environmental breakdown. It is designed for participants who want a regular space for exploration and reflection, and who wish to bring their own questions and insights.
These sessions focus on adaptation: planning the changes needed to cope with climate impacts. They do not focus on actions to reduce carbon emissions.
