Organised by Argentina 1.5 with support from ARA, this informal working lunch brings together adaptation experts, researchers, and negotiators to exchange perspectives on how the Second Global Stocktake (GST2) can more effectively assess collective progress on adaptation. Building on lessons from the first Global Stocktake and recent developments under the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), the discussion will explore opportunities to strengthen coherence between these processes and better reflect adaptation efforts, implementation, support, effectiveness, and outcomes. The lunch is intended as an opportunity for open, forward-looking exchange, helping identify key challenges, emerging priorities, and practical considerations as preparations for GST2 continue.

Aim

The meeting aims to generate early thinking on how GST2 can more effectively assess collective progress on adaptation, drawing lessons from GST1 and recent developments under the GGA, while identifying practical pathways to strengthen the recognition of adaptation efforts, implementation, support, effectiveness, and progress towards the Global Goal on Adaptation.

Expected Outcome

Participants will exchange perspectives on adaptation assessment under GST2, identify key challenges and opportunities, and contribute to a clearer understanding of how GST2 can better capture adaptation progress and strengthen coherence with the Global Goal on Adaptation.
