Women’s Environmental Network (Wen)
About
Wen is a UK based environmental charity working on issues that connect women, health, equity and environmental justice. We take an intersectional feminist approach to tackling the climate and nature emergencies. We are working to build a caring, equitable, and sustainable world where people and the planet thrive.
Wen’s belief
We believe that women, communities and the natural world have a right to a healthy environment.
The problem
Women, especially racialised, disabled and marginalised women, are disproportionately affected by the climate and nature crises. This is due to the roles they’re expected to take on, the places they live, the work they do, and the deep-rooted systemic inequalities they face.
We know from decades of work that the people most impacted by climate change, pollution and environmental harm are often the ones with the least power to influence the policies that shape their lives.
The solution
We can’t solve the climate and nature emergencies by replicating the same top-down, extractive systems that created it. We need something bolder, more inclusive, and more rooted in care.
Women’s experiences should be at the heart of conversations. Because when we centre the voices of those most affected, we find better, fairer solutions.
What Wen is doing
At Wen, we’re building power nationally and through local community projects. We work with communities to demonstrate that new ways of doing things are possible, creating alternatives to what currently exists. We campaign for change and challenge the status quo, building movements and changing mindsets through coalitions and partnerships with aligned organisations and networks.
