Aim
Climate adaptation is urgent and requires funding: but who receives it, and who is left out? And what are the sources and instruments of adaptation finance? This session explored whether current adaptation funding and finance truly prioritise equity, and how they might be reimagined to better support those most vulnerable to climate risks.
Background
This webinar invites participants to explore financing fairness: unlocking climate adaptation for the UK’s most vulnerable communities. As climate risks intensify, this session offered a space to explore how adaptation finance can be structured to maximise both equity and effectiveness, ensuring that resources reach those who need them most.
The third UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA3) and the Climate Change Committee’s Investment for a Well-Adapted UK report highlight the significant economic costs of climate change, alongside the substantial societal and financial benefits of adaptation. Yet, despite these clear advantages, a persistent gap in adaptation finance remains, and existing mechanisms may unintentionally reinforce inequalities. Watch now to learn how adaptation finance can be reimagined to close these gaps and deliver fair, resilient outcomes across the UK.
Agenda
Our fantastic panel explored:
- Who benefits, and who is left behind, by current financial mechanisms?
- How can we mobilise dedicated resources for vulnerability-targeted efforts?
- Can adaptation be financed in ways that address root causes without relying on profitability?
- What are the opportunities and risks of using non-traditional financing (e.g. blended finance, philanthropy)?
