Adaptation CoP: Embedding Adaptation into Procurement

Details
Tuesday 8 July, 10am-12pm
Online, via Zoom
Topic
Climate adaptation action often involves making investment decisions and the procurement of new goods and services. Whilst many people conceptually get the crux of reduce, reuse, recycle being at the heart of mitigation action, there is no similar mantra for adaptation.
This session will therefore explore whether there is a way of making investment and procurement decision-making “adaptation positive” and what the process looks like. Are there a set of principles which could be applied to any organisation to help make better investment decisions from an adaptation perspective? Is there a reduce, reuse, recycle for climate adaptation? The talk is informed by academic research from the University of Cambridge exploring adaptation procurement in the European health sector.
- Why is procurement for adaptation in the health sector tricky?
- An introduction to 12 suggested principles for adaptation positive procurement
- Who has a part to play and when?
You’ll have a chance to input into, refine and challenge the principles, and in doing so will support the development of a toolkit for adaptation-positive procurement and investment decision making in the health sector. Hopefully you’ll see the potential application in your own organisations.
Audience
The Adaptation Community of Practice is free and open to all organisations and groups working on, or hoping to work on, climate adaptation. We meet regularly to share good practice, explore systemic challenges, and provide peer support for work in this complex space.
Speakers
Louise Elstow, Research Associate in Infrastructure Climate Adaptation at Cambridge University, as part of PEACCH (Project to Embed Adaptation to Climate Change in Healthcare).
